Greatest year ever. *****ALL PUBLIC LAND MOUNTAIN BIRDS****

So the first weekend was bad, no birds gobbling at all.

The first monday, my brother in law (CORY) went to the mountain only to hear a few gobble, nothing great. He left me in the woods to go work, and he was comming back to pick me up after he got off. I stayed. At 3:45 I got a bird to gobble. He wouldn't come in, but I sneeked around the mountain side up to 50 yards of a group of hens. I called them up by sounding like a feeding hen. Shot this bird at 6:30. Long hunt, long day.

April 23rd.

Sick as a dog, I took off work to go hunting and by golly I was going hunting. Got up to a great spot. I crowed had a bird below be gobble. I made 2 calls and a bird above me gobbled. I make one more and he had closed the distance. I went above my 4 wheeler trail and made one more yelp. Came in like on a string.

Dead by 8:30.

April 18th

Birds were gobbling great. Wind blowing on top of the moutain bad. I called one up and got busted when we were looking for cover. We went to another spot and got off the 4 wheeler and called. A bird gobbled 75 yards away. We ran to get our guns. I had cory infront of me about 20 yards. The bird came around a bend instead of up the road. Cory didn't even see it. I took the shot at 30 yards.

20 Pounds 10 inch beard, 1 inch spurs (twins from Friday)

April 25th.

Went to a diffrent spot. Came up on a road and seen 4 gobblers in a pack. A coyote spooked all the birds. Cory ended up shooting the yote. We then called and a bird came in, but wouldn't stick his head out over the hill. Went down the ridge to find another bird gobbling good. Called 3 times and came in from 300 yards a running! Great bird! Cory shot him at 20 yards.

Later on we called in the 4 gobblers back to us. I pulled the trigger and "CLICK" I forgot to load my gun!!! LOL!

His biggest yet. a True limb hanger!

24 pounds 10.5 inch beard, 1" SHARP spurs.

Rest of the season,

I ended up calling a couple more up, but the hens didn't help! took them away!

Best year ever. I killed 3, and called up 2 for cory.

We should of both tagged out! Many lessons have been learned!

I have seen less people than ever and have got more birds ever to respond. The population where we are is unreal. And people just don't turkey hunt as much as they use to.

Glad you had a great season, and I know exactly where the pic next to the lake is, I killed my fifth TN bird of the season (Chuck Swan being 1 of them) not but a little ways from there on April the 6th.

I wonder if you all were the ones who rode past me on opening day blowing crow calls. I only heard the one group of hunters, and birds were gobbling prior to you all arriving and after you all left. It was not in the same spot as above, but not far from there.

I took 4 birds from that part of the world, and called in 13 other birds on various mountain sides in that area for buddies over the course of the season.

Again glad you all had a great season, and this was by far the wildest turkey season I have ever seen in my life. Not just here, but all over the SE.

I too am, lets say pretty familiar with that area Cruff, lol. I only went to that area a couple times this season to hunt, but I wasnt too far away on several days!! Congrats on the birds and I agree it was a great season. Birds were numerous and responded well for us all over the eastern part of the state as well. Me and my Dad and my 2 boys, 12 and 8 yrs old, killed about a dozen ourselves, and caused several more to die, fun for sure!
Congrats on a great season!
