Used to have giant flock of birds on my land with 8-10 toms yo hunt throughout the season. As I have posted in other threads habitat change and development has scattered them. Been seeing them in the area but none on me. Also saw 2 jakes but even they were on other property.

Was out there last night not hunting (didn't think there was any point) and of course I spot a bird down the power line and can see a beard [emoji30].

I watched him and it was about 7 pm. He went into the woods and I knew where he'd probably go. There is a hard wood flat on top of a small hill with lots of red oaks. I got up this morning and snuck in there. My son had a soccer game at 8 am. I set up not knowing exactly where he was but hoped he went straight up from where he went in the woods. I was about right and set up about 50 yds from him. At 5:30 he started gobbling at first I just sat there, but then I decided to yelp real soft. I did and he gobbled I scratched the leaves and went silent. He gobbled 2 more times over the next couple of minutes. I heard leaves in the trees shaking and sure enough a few seconds later wings flapping. I was at the ready and this guy flies and lands 30 yds or so from me wrenched his neck looking for his date and I rolled him. I was back at the truck by 6-6:05.

11" beard

3/4" and 15/16" spurs

Didn't weigh him but I'm guessing 18-19 lbs.

Got home did the work and took my son to his game.
