I hunted in the rain yesterday and my gun got wet,so I dried it off when I got home and I sprayed WD 40 and Powder Blast in the receiver to give it a cleaning,it did a great job cleaning it but it dissolved the camo finish on the gun,so beware of this before you use these!!

WD-40 is a terrible product for guns. It's too thick and attracts dirt and holds burnt powder. It also eats finishes off of stuff.

Hate this happened to you but hopefully it saves the next person

I grew up and was trained to use Gun Scrubber.
It is an awesome product for sure.

Got my son a Ruger 10-22 and after the initial shooting I gave it a GOOD cleaning.
Gun scrubber followed by the oil I have used all my life.
All of a sudden the shelac or whatever they put on the wood now was running down my arm.

I think the newer guns, less than 10 years old, aren't built with the same quality components as they once were.

Also my gunsmith friend (that introduced me to gun scrubber) told me last year that you gotta be real careful with it because spraying it will make the small parts real cold real quick and make them very brittle.
Dunno about that part but that's what he said.

Now I just blast the dirt out of the crevices with oil then wipe it down best I can with q-tips.

I hate to hear that, hope the damage was minimal. As previously mentioned, not a fan of WD-40 on firearms. Compressed air and a LIGHT wipe down with a rag and Rem oil, or something similar, is how I roll after rain events.

Sucks and I hate it for you. There are probably places that can reprint or dip it with a new finish and it'll look like new again

I may get that done after season ends

I hate that happened, it could be a lot worse though. (At least it's not rust.)

You could buy came spray paint in similar colors and tape off the unaffected areas. Be sure they're free of any oils of course. Then just touch it up yourself. You may want to practice on some cardboard first. Ive used real leaves to paint camo on them before, and also cut out some from construction paper.

I will probably just get it dipped after season ends

I'm always real careful with Hoppes 9 on my shotgun because of the rustoleum paint job. I've heard it will strip the paint, but I haven't tested...

yeah unfortunately like mentioned before WD40 is really bad for guns in general. IF you are going to get it refinished at some point just look to cerekote it and you wont have to worry about rain or something messing up the finish. just wipe it with a dry rag and you're all done. just a thought
