Why is everyone hung up on big cutting broadheds Almost all my bow kills have been with 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 dia and not one deer complained. I have blown threw shoulder with 1 1/2 broadheads before not meaning to it just happened. I just dont feel a 2 inch broadhead would go threw bone and therefore wouldnt leave an exit wound. If you hit a deer in the lung it will die. My mathews monster has 72 pounds ke but I still think I would trust a smaller broadhead than a big cutting one.

I know!I shoot Muzzy 100 grain and like you said it goes in one side and through the shoulder on the other with clean pass through. No deer has stood a chance with it.

Mine are 1 1/8 and have killed several with a 1" cut wasp head. Shot placement is key. Some think with a larger cut that they can relax on shot placement. A bad shot with any size cut head can result in a lost animal.

I also agree, but I will add that since shot placement is everything, super fast shooting bows with lots of KE are also not necessary, and in many cases conter productive. In other words, I think the big cutting broadhead craze is very similar to the speed / KE craze. A lot of hunters are sold on both because they think it increases their chances of harvesting game. Truth is both hard shooting bows and big broadheads can help in some situations, but all on balance I don't think most hunters are any more effective with them.

The selling point of big broadheads is that they open up a bigger wound channel. The negative is that it is tougher to get a full passthrough, and therefore the positive becomes a negative. I would rather have a passthrough on a 1" diameter than a non passthrough on a 2". (I guess I would rather have a passthrough on a 2"!)

I had great luck with the 1 3/4" rockets not so much with the 2" rage.I don't think it was the extra size but rather the rage being poorly made

NO BRAINER FOR ME, I like a broadhead with atleast a 2'' cutting diameter (swhacker or rage 2 blade". I blast thru all 15-18 deer from 3 yards to 62 yards with the rage 2 blade and am only shooting about 287 fps with a 367 gr arrow.

All the deer I've killed with the Rage had complete pass thru and they die within 40 yds. Even had one drop dead in her tracks

Great point......but i will ask the question.....would you rather be shot with a 40 cal bullet if on accident or a 22......both can kill you but smaller is at least likely to do less damage so therefore i would rather be accidentally cut with a pocket knife than a bowie knife.
Bigger can be better............ :D

Hard to argue with this, spine shot at 20 yds opening morning and dropped instantly. Rage 2 blade.
