My golfing bud had been asking me to come out to.his place to kill a deer for him and his family to eat. He'd shown me pix of 1O to 20:deer behind his house.

I went over there expecting nothing, about 4:15 a young doe walked out into his field. I passed on her and at 5:15 the biggest doe I've ever seen walked out.

i shot her as she cleared his secondary gararge and he came to get her with the bucket on his tractor.

i felt badly killing a back yard deer, but he and his wife were tickled to death.

i.m guessing they'll get 50# of meat out of her. It'll save State Farm some insurance money. It was the biggest doe I've ever killed....

How much did she weigh?
I honestly don't know what she weighed. I drug her into the skinning room and got my bud to help me lift her onto the table. Based on weighing and picking up hundreds of animals over the years she must've weighed in close to 150#. When I skinned her she had a layer of fat on her rump and sides between 3/4 and 1" thick. I'll weigh the meat before I finish processing but I estimate it to be at least 55#. I only kept the backstraps, tenderloins, front shoulder and rear quarters. I could have and should have gotten several punds of neck meat but I was so tired I didn't bother.

The guy I shot it for and his wife have no idea how much deer meat they're about to recieve. I'm going to let it rest for 8 days then process it down to roasts and grind along with the backstraps and tenderloins separate. It's a lot of trouble, but he's a good friend and I think I'll have a place where I can get a chance at a good buck in the future. His neighbors hunt a lot and apparently the deer are using his property as a sanctuary. When he asked me to get him a deer I told him I was bucked out and could only get a doe. He said get a good one. I guess I did.

OK curiosity got the best of me...the meat weighed 54#, but that includes shoulder and shank bones as well as femures. I', sure I left 4-5# of neck meat and flanks that I could have gotten...
