last sunday morning, we had 2 birds gobbling. one across the highway off the property and he's always there. the other sounded like he was a half mile away in the opposite direction. gobbling all morning but not moving. too far away to hear any calls. after sitting there listening for a while, we decided to go fishing 
while gathering our stuff just fthoi i yelped as loud as i could with a diaphragm. he gobbled. hmmmm and did it 3 more times. we resituated and sat back down. he would answer every(LOUD) call but was not moving. thinking we could cross the field and get a little closer we made a move. half way across the field, i looked in the neighbor's field just in time to see him step out of the woods 200 yds away. he saw us and of course spooked. did i ruin my chances with that one for in the morning?
