Watching a hunting show tonight and they suggested that if you have turkeys hanging up in a field, to set up the blind and decoys in the middle of the field. Go in when dark and set it up so sun rises at your back. Does not scare turkeys.
Anyone heard of this technique?

yep...i do it all the time. turkeys don't pay it any attention. just set it up in the morning and wait for them to see the decoys and they will head your way.

If you can, set up with the sun to your back.... the sun effects their eyes too.... use it to your advantage to get away with movement or whatever.

Grizzly is spot on. Put the sun at your back and use it to your advantage. They dont pay attention to the blinds.

Yep never believed it till last year.
Kinda funny, I think a turkey is harder to kill than a deer and you put up a blind in a field like that for deer and they will disappear for days. :D

I don't buy into the turkeys are harder to kill than deer(adult buck deer) deal, at least not for me. A spotted fawn wouldn't come near a blind recently set up right out in the open, but the oldest gobbler on the place doesn't notice it after its been there five minutes! Walnut sized brain vs. a large brain.

It works. I shot the window out of my blind last year bc a bird came to my opend field set up on the wrong window and would not commit to the front of my blind, so I chose getting the bird over a mesh window haha. It definately works.

Thanks all. Going to throw the blind in the truck, just in case.
This show, can't remember the name, was actually pretty good. They were bow hunting turkeys. Talked a lot about what decoys to use at what time of year and how to place, and face, the decoys in relation to your blind.
