im thinking about buying a bow before to long. i have been thinking about a martin jaguar or a sammick sage. i dont have much money to spend on one at all is why im looking at these. any advice would be great

Also check classifieds on archerytalk traditional stuff. I'm not a member but there are several for sale there for reasonable prices.

Start with a low draw weight until you can perfect your form. Then you can start looking for something heavier. The Samick would be my recommendation for a starter bow. I've never shot the Jaguar, but I've read a lot of mixed reviews.

There's a book called "Shooting The Stickbow" by Anthony Camera. I highly recommend picking up this book and reading it. I would even go so far as recommending you read the book before you try to buy a bow if you have the patience.

let me ask this first... whats your experience with trad archery ?? if thers any way you need to actually spend some time shoot'n one just to see if its what you really want, thers a bit of a learn'n curve but when you get the hang of it your hooked, thers nothin like a trad bow.

As stated Tradgang.com is teh bomb for trad info, do yourself a favor before you buy, RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH !!! if you buy a junk bow your screwed, it wont perform, you'll be dishearted & it'll be money/time wasted.

Also give us a clue as to how much you want to spend, ther mite be some one here who knows of a good used bow in your price range.

Longer is usually better starting out. You definitely don't want a short (48-54) inch bow to start with. The longer a bow is the more forgiving, at least with traditional.

I have a crossbow but I am tired of it and want a compound bow. Anybody have anything good to say about the redhead brand bows at basspro.

Whoops, you're in the traditional forum - not the compound bow forum. :)

Seeing as how you're in Shelby County, I would STRONGLY suggest you go visit Everything Archery on Pleasant View and let Ty (the owner) get you setup with something. His prices are more than fair (I bought a new sight there a couple months ago and looked it up when I got home - he was $30 less than Bass pro!) and the service is TOP NOTCH. I've never had a bought a bow or had a bow setup at Bass Pro, but from the stories I've heard, I think I'd pass.

Just my $.02 - Good luck!

i use to shoot my dad,s old recurve alot and shot his long bow some to.

OK...at least you've been around a trad bow some, you should have a clue anyway, like I said do your research & save your cash, then start look'n for a deal, used bows can be had at resonable prices if you use your head.

Go for it, let us know what ya get.

I can see wher a house fire can be bad for a bow...wow, be carefull if you use it.

By the way...how much you look'n to spend if I mite ask ?

Thanks for the info. Got the crossbow cheap when i first started bow hunting and never though about getting a compound bow or a traditional. After several years I have gotten tired of carrying the bow around and would like to get back to a more traditional style of bow hunting. Once again thanks for the info.

will do. i found an old bear recurve someone gave me a while back in a closet. i was told it was in a house fire so im not sure it's safe to shoot

I'm with Fox Fire on this one. the bow may look fine but the heat of the fire may have affected the glue in the laminations. I dont know if I would string it up but maybe just display it.
