bow for the wife

My wife really wants to get into archers but I know next to nothing about it. We went to gander mountain and the guy there advised a Bear Homewrecker for her. I checked it out online a bit and it seems like a pretty good bow to me. I heard nothing but good things about it and I like the price. I was curious if anyone knew about this bow at all or if there is something else I should look into? She will sit out this season since we are having a daughter in Oct so she will have plenty of time to practice with it before she shoots at anything.
 
First of all, find someone that is at least somewhat knowledgeable about archery to go over the basics with her, so she'll know what to look for feel wise. I have a built in "distrust" for the majority of people that work at these big box stores, because often the have little to no training in what they are dealing with and are just as likely to sell you something just because it is on the shelf. Next have her shoot multiple bows and go with the one that "fits" her and feels the best when she holds it, draws it and shoots it. A bow finds its owner, not the owner finding the bow.
 
TnDeerGuy is 110% correct here.

Some times Pro Shops are just as bad as the box stores though when it comes to selling stuff. You'll start to learn this once you've been around it a little bit...the bow tech at one shop will swear by everything in their shop as being the superior products and for the most part, they will always have something negative to say about products they do not carry that the shop down the road carries. It's no biggie...you just have to have the ability to know what you like and not let anybody else sway you one way or the other.

With that said, I would indeed do some more research on bows for your wife. Then go let her shoot a bunch of them and let her pick which one she likes the best. My wife shoots the Strother Hope bow...she likes it better than any bow she has ever had and is shooting it better than anything she has had in the past. She has shot her highest scores in tournaments since getting it. I liked shooting it well enough that I got one in 60# for myself. BowTech and Diamond make a couple bows for ladies/youth that you might consider as well...the BowTech Heartbreaker, and Diamond Infinite Edge.

There's several good bows out there now days...just as long as it fits her in draw length and a comfortable draw weight...the bow itself doesn't have to have a girly name or girly colors on it.
 
Thanks for the info. We got her draw length but couldnt see how much she can pull back or shoot since she is a lefty and they didnt have any left-handed bows. Im hoping that this wont prevent her from being able to test-shoot before we buy. Also, price is a factor but at the same time I dont wanna shell a a few hundred and then buy another bow the next year.
 
Lot of good bows out there in the 300$ range for youngsters/women.

My wife has a Browning Micro-Adrenalin, and loves it, I think it was 299 set up, and we put a whisker biscuit on it.

Get her something she feels comfortable with, make sure she gets to shoot something before she buys it though!

The same info as everyone else has said . Except I would add to make sure she is left eye dominant as well . You can be left handed but right eye dominant and it would be alot easier to start off shooting the correct way rather than changin a few months or years down the road.
 
Diamond, made by Bowtech, makes 2 really good bows for both women/youth, they are the Razors Edge and Infinite Edge. Both are sold with everything you need to shoot except for arrows and both are $350. My wife started with the razor and it its a great bow for the beginner for both target shooting and hunting. We bought our 5 year old son the new Infinite edge this year. It does exactly what Diamond says, and the only problem I came across with it is that he has a 15 inch draw length and when you drop below 15 lbs. of draw weight the string is a little too loose. Of course with longer draw lenths this will not be an issue. And the best thing about them is that with all the adjustment, no bow press needed, they have when she is ready to move on they are a quick seller. Oh and my son is right handed but left eye dominant and he has no problem shooting his left handed one.
 
She is lucky since she is a lefty for both hand and eye unlike myself who is left-handed but right-eye dominant. Ill check out all the tips yall gave me and then try to get her the best thing that she is comfortable with and that we can afford.
 
Hope I was a little bit of help. And one other thing, if she gets one that is not comfortable with it she will not have fun and not stay with it. Hope she finds one and both of yall enjoy.
