I just got a pse stinger bow and have always hunted with gun. i would love to hunt with my bow next season but have some questions. what are the best arrowheads other than the rage because i have heard alot of bad/good and would rather go with a more traditional non mechanical type arrowhead. also, what yardage do you guys have your pin sights set at. i only have a 3 pin sight so im at 10, 20, and 30 yards. is this enough yardage while bow hunting?

i shot rage for a year and swapped to spitfires. youll get a million different answers, just play with em till u find something that works for u.

my pins are set at 25, 40, 50

but in reality most of my shots are inside 30

nap has sent me free broadheads just for calling them and telling them I was interested in a certain one but didnt wanna break the bank testing em out...

Theyve also let me buy like one broadhead at a time from the company for cheap..

If your set on mechanicals,I'd definatly give the spitfires a try.I used them for the first time this year, and they are good, and make awesome blood trails!

I like Trophy Ridge Meat Seekers. I tried the rage and didn't care for them.
I would say with your bow your best bet on pins would be 20,30,40. That is how mine is set up. The arrow doesn't really rise or drop out to 20 yards.

Most broadhead now days are pretty good. I have used spitfires, grim reapers and Muzzy 3 blade 100's and killed deer with all 3. right now I am using Muzzy with very good success. Pins are set at 20,30,40. 90% of my shots are around 20 yds. Just remember when up in a tree ALWAYS bend at the waist and not just drop your bow arm to lower the bow. If not you will shoot high especially at closer range. Welcome to Archery.

Im new to it as well. I bought an old bear bow and set my pins at 20 30 and 40 and just bought a new bear and set those pins the same. Probably wont ever take a shot at a deer at 40 yards, its just fun for the range. I use Slick Trick Magnums which I got my first deer with and she didnt run 10 yards. I think all broadheads will do the same job with proper shot placement so it's really just up to you to which one you buy.

I have my pins set between 20 and 70 yds. Because I believe in shooting long range to help my short game. It kinda makes you nervous about losing arrows but after that first hit you feel your confidence rise.for those shorter shots and that's all bow hunting is is knowing you can make the shot and doing it with the right form. I'm not tryin to tell you to go and try to sshoot 70 yds right out of the gate but just something to think about.

For fixed heads , I like Slick Trick Mag 100 and G5 Striker 100 gr.
For a 3 pin sight I sight in my top pin at 20 . That is the only pin you should use in your first year of bowhunting . Keep your shots at 20 yards or less . I don't see the need for a 10 yard pin . When you sight in your 20 yard pin , get up close to 10 yards and set it so it hits a little high at 10 , then step back to 20 to fine tune it.
You can set your other two pins at 30 and 40 yards for practice . Long range practice will help you fine tune your shooting form and make closer shots easier.

Radar summed it up nicely!! I love my G5 strikers--they hit identical compared to my field points.

I shoot PSE. I shoot one pin sight at 25 yrds. I shoot slick tricks. I have shot Muzzy, thunderhead, razorbacks, spitfires, but slick tricks are the real deal. If your bow is fast enough, and the Stinger is, try using one pin.

I use a moveable single pin on most of my bowhunting setups too . I keep it locked down at 25 yards and I'm good out to 35 yards with a little hold over .
I would recommend keeping it locked down at 20 yards for someone just starting out bowhunting . A single pin is less confusing at the moment of truth when taking a shot at deer when you are all pumped up with adrenaline . I focus on one pin , shot angle and yardage .

If you hit the deer where you are supposed to hit them you could kill them with a field point if you wanted. I use G5 montec cs and have had great success with them. I never had a problem with penetration or pass through. I use a single pin sight and love it. 90 to 95% of my bow shots in the woods come within 20 yards.
