I read on Archery talks forum that an after market string can add up to 6 fps, compared to the factory string. Any truth to this?

If you're comparing apples to apples, meaning that both strings were made using the same material, then the answer is NO, you won't see 6 fps difference. Some string material is faster than others, so if the aftermarket string-maker uses a different string material, then it is possible to see faster speeds than factory strings.

Depends on material and number of strands. Many 3d archers use fewer strands in their string for a few added FPS.
