Box calls

Relatively new to turkey hunting. Question? What is the advantage of using box or pot calls? I primarily use a mouth call. What am I missing by not having or using pot or box calls?

I use a mouth call most of the time also.

However, I do carry pot calls for soft clucks and purrs because I make those calls better than with a mouth call.

I personally do not carry a box call because of the bulk, and I'm not as good with them as the others anyway. Now, they can be loud, so there is a place on windy days for them or other places where you want the most volume.

I carry Turpin box call. All box calls are not equal. I finally found one I like. It shines an tough days when they won't gobble. I usually can get one to gobble at my box if all else fails. I also use it on windy days.

Any particular turkey may respond to any particular call on any particular day. If a particular trukey will respond well to a box on the day I'm there, I want to be ready. So I carry one. I use a mouth call 80% of the time, but also cary and use 2 pots, 4-5 different strikers, a box, a wingbone, and a tube call.

If I'm going for an afternoon sit where I plan to cold call a lot, sometimes I take 2 boxes.
