Buddy of mine made me a brand new slate call and delivered it today.
The pot and striker top is made from Black Walnut that he knows for a fact is at least 150 years old.
His dad remembers when they cut the tree when he was a kid.
The guy that made the call said he remembers playing on the wood as a child with his brother after it was moved into a barn.
The striker body is rosewood.
The slate is aluminum and the sound board is poplar.
The inside of the pot is made like an inverted doughnut so that I can get a higher pitched yelp on the outer edge and then move in to the center of the call for a nice sounding purr.
He even inscribed Genesis 27:3 into the back of the call for me.
This picture is kinda dark but it is indeed a work of art.
This is a closer shot of the back of the call tilted a little so you can see a little more of the grain.
