After having my bow paper tuned yesterday, I got a wild hair and decided to try some slick tricks - 100g.

After shooting several shots everthing was hitting about 3in low from my field points. Left to right was dead on and for the life of me I can't figure out why. I know it's no big deal to just move the sight pin but this really drives me crazy. It may be due to the 4 blades instead of the 3 bladed Montec G5's I was shooting. (they were spot on).

So I know I'm going to get asked why the switch?.....and to tell you the truth not really sure other then the Montec's are not near as sharp as the slick tricks.

And before anyone replies "you need to shoot the Rage" they fly like crap out of my bow and I'm not a fan of expandables either.

Paper tuning will get you very close to where you need to be but sometimes you need to tweek your bow just a little to get it perfect. Paper tuning is alot like bore sighting a rifle.
Move your knocking point down a "LITTLE" or move your rest up "JUST A HAIR". That should fix it. The number of blades shouldn't make any difference what so ever.

I will try that...Thanks.

You need to shoot Rage! :D

Seriously though, are the same weight?

Another thing I will check. Thanks!!

I'm going on a paid hunt in KY over Labor Day and I want this thing shooting like a bullet before I leave. ;)

Move your loop or nock down or move your rest up in 1/16" increments until they group with your field points . Shoot your montecs as well and see if they are flying low now too .
Paper tuning can give false readings and is just a starter to group tuning or walk back tuning .

Always try to move the rest if possible. If you go to moving you nock it will mess with your peep height. Although, maybe not enough to matter.

At what distance was you shooting to get the 3"s low? 20 yards?

Dang glad I don't have these problems anymore. This is exactly why I switched to a crossbow.Man I hated keeping my bow in tune. About this time every year I was scrambling to get my bow properly tuned and shooting my broadheads good.Thank the lord for those evil crossbows..LOL Good luck with it!

X2!

You also need to make sure your arrows are tuned properly with the broadheads on them. This will cause you problems just like a bow out of tune. If the arrow wont spin perfectly, with no wobble at the base of the head, it wont fly straight!

If you are shooting bullet holes and are dead on left and right but a simply a little low (compared to field points) then I would think it's more of a weight issue of the broadheads.

If your bow is out of tune it would be spraying arrows all over the place.

Shouldn't take much of an adjustment on your rest or nock point. Yea make sure your old broadheads aren't hitting low as well.

I quit paper tuning and just broadhead/group tune now.

That's part of the fun man!

At least you realized you didn't like tuning your bow and broadheads and switched over to a weapon that might not require as much practice to make a good shot.

Unlike some of these yahoos that shoot their bow a dozen times the day before the opener and screw on a broadhead and think they're ready to go make an ethical shot on a deer.

Ditto Radar and Winchester's posts.

I hate paper tuning bc it gives false impressions. Walk back tuning is the best way IMO. If your bow does well on this, you are ready to rock and broadheads shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, some folks like the whole "tuneing" process, but I never did.But I will say that while I hunted with my compound,it HAD to shoot broadheads and field points the same or it drove me crazy...

I just wanted to say thanks for all the info. I spent the morning tuning with the the "walk back process" and it didn't take long to get it dialed in.

I will admit I had to get online and watch a couple of you-tube videos on how to do the process. (and it wasn't what I thought it was).......anyways, I will ALWAYS use this going forward. ;)

Have a great weekend everyone,

Arch
