Lot's of talk about various broadhead choices. I have read from guys that have tested bh and have an opinion and from people who have not tested them and give their advice. I will refrain from giving my BH opinions unless I have tested them and then used them on a deer or tested them and have decided not to use them on a deer because of failure or a decision of how the BH performed. Remember, most people are biased one way or the other.

If you are seeking advice on BH take opinions but the best thing to do is to test them yourself. Of course this should have been posted months ago. Personally the best broadheads for me may not be for you. It is a choice that I take VERY serious. BTW, I use both fixed and expandable.

The best thing to do is start with a bow that is tuned and is shooting good. If you have confidence in your shooting when you test BH you can relax and concentrate on the testing and not worry about the other variables.

Good post and very true rich. It is a biased subject and everyone will have their own preference. In my opinion, EVERY BH is different...not just in name brand, fixed or expandable, BUT each individual BH PERIOD. Fine one that you like, shoot with it till your comfortable, then swith the blades, then go huntin!

Saying that, I use Grim Reapers. With them, I have shot 2 does and a coyote the past 2 years. The 2 does (both on the openers) combined ran a total of 25 yards total.

Good luck and safe shooting!

Good post Rich. I have been lucky in being able to test a lot of different broadheads. I have two friends that are outdoor reps. They are always giving me different broadheads to test and get feedback.

I have shot deer with both fixed and mechanicals. Different models of each. I have my own opinions on the various BH I have used. I say it is like everything else, based mostly on personal preference. They all are designed to do the same job. Certain heads will work better under different bows, spine weight of arrow, and the biggest: SHOT PLACEMENT

I can agree with you about accepting advice, and testing for yourself. If something works great for me it may not for someone else. One thing though, if your bow is properly tuned, you should be able to choose what you want to shoot.

For me, I liked the Grim Reapers and SpitFire for one shot. They did a number on the deer, then the head on each was useless.
I faded from fixed heads when all the hype started about mechanicals... but I am back on Muzzy fixed blades, and plan on staying there! (unless they design a head that will track itself so all I have to do is answer the phone and listen to coordinates of the dead deer. :) )

I agree as well . The best broadhead for you is the one that YOU can place in the vitals with confidence , knowing that the broadhead will shoot where you are aiming with YOUR setup and have the strength and sharpness to hold up to make a clean kill.
Broadhead choice is not following the latest trend or rage , it's about choosing the best broadhead based on your setup.

I have many actual personal experiences with the rage 2 blade on deer and it is absolutely devastating! It makes the biggest entry and exit wounds of any broadhead that I have ever seen or used! The g5 striker is my fixed head of choice.

i can say the same about the miniblasters i have shot for the last 10 or 12 yrs. what impressed me the most were the results on marginal or just plain bad shots.(it happens)

All I know is what works best for my bow and I like the flight of the arrows with the BH on them. And then how they take care of my game.Good Post.
