Dang it was quiet today. Two distant birds gobbled a handful of times at daybreak. Small handful of shots too. I was sitting among tons of turkey scratch but the birds were a no show except for a lone hen. The one other guy who came in and hunted down the hill from me had the same results.

Got lunch at my favorite country store by the WMA and met ImThere and bigasports who also had the same luck. Birds were not cooperating...

Went to Spot #2 around 1 pm, and sat down in the shade of a cedar tree on high ground. I hit the call a couple times and listened. About 5 minutes later, I heard foot steps and 2 hens skirted the edge of the woods about 25 yards out.

Behind the two hens were two red heads and a couple more hens. I saw the long beard on the second red head, and waited for him to stop in an opening so I could shoot.

No gobbling or strutting. Birds were acting weird today, but this one flock was interested enough to check me out.

23 pound 9 ounce 2 year old. That is my heaviest bird so far.

I realized that I called em in with a wing bone from a gobbler that I killed 2 years ago, on opening day, in almost the same spot. Thought that was kind of cool.

Thanks for looking...got a lil crappy video, will see what I can do with that. Congrats to everyone else who got one today, and good luck if you're still hunting until sunset.
