I usually dont have a problem comparing bucks....BUT I usually always compare them from antler configurations. Well, this deer has a few different configurations from last year (as a 7pt). The only thing I can see to compare is his antlers are more "webbed" than all the other deer from previous years.

The best thing I have to go on with him is the marking he has right behind the shoulder...."about" where he should have a bullseye.

Last year's marking:

Do you think it's the same buck? I'm thinking so

Possible. Very similar shape to the rack. The black chin strap is also similar as are the throat patches. The white on the elbow is probably the strongest suggestion of it being the same buck.

On the other hand, the buck from last year has more of an unpward sweeping rack, and honestly, looks two years younger than the buck in the lower pictures.

I think its the same deer

IF they are different deer, would you say this years pics is a mature deer at 4 1/2+ ? And last years deer a 2 1/2? I can usually pin-point atleast 3-4 deer from the year before. I was hoping that this was 1 of them. Being that there has been SO much logging going on and the does pushing the bucks out, that this was 1 that I could identify.

If it is the same deer (and I hope it is), he is more of a "loner" and stayed around a certain area during September and October.....might be one I can kill during bow season

I always look at brow tines as they seem to stay very similar in configuration and size from year to year. He has very short brows last year and relatively short brows this year. That's a hard one to tell. I have the same issue when trying to match up 2 year olds from the previous year. Also, I've learned that a lot of times bucks visit the same mineral sites and or feeders summer after summer. If these two pictures came from the same area I'd say there is a very good chance that's the same buck.

Exact same lick

There are more factors indicating it is the same buck than it isn't, and that's good enough for me.
