Im guessing 4-5.
(1) front shoulder is really big.
(2) His bases are 'full' for the first 3 inches up the tine.

Mature (4 1/2+). Beyond that, hard to say until he fills out in late October.

I find the most accurate age by conformation occurs late October into the 1st week of November. This is when bucks are at maximum musculature before the rut kicks in. Of course, that's for a mid-November peak rut. If your rut is later, then look towards a week or two before local peak breeding.

If he's 4.5 that would mean he was born around January, right?

Seems like an odd time for a fawn to drop.

I should have been more specific. Buck ages are given at what they will be during hunting season. A buck that will be 3 1/2 this fall (hunting season) is actually only 3 now, but he is still called a "3 1/2 year-old buck" now. Strange system, but...
