Someone told me there's a buck bedding two doe in our front 30 acres. The Lodge is up on top of a knoll, lane rolls down the knoll through a minor wooded area on each side, then opens onto meadow/hay areas on both sides. He said they were bedded down on one side of the lane. When I went out this morning, I went the long way around, and, surprise!, they were bedded on the other side of the lane, the side my route took, and they ran of course. Two doe and one buck. Saw them 3x. No idea his age or rack because he was moving. But, at least it's confirmed that he's here.

Any thoughts on how to play this? Do I have a day? Two days for two doe?

I actually laughed when I thought about having my wife drive down the lane and let me "roll" out of the vehicle and get behind the grain bins this afternoon. The doe are used to the vehicles. This would allow me to shoot away from the road which is still a ways away, but there are a couple houses that way and I don't want to take any chances there...we like our neighbors. Anyway, this would also allow me to cover both sides of the lane where they like to be. Seems like a plan.

I would be building a stand on the grain bin for next year.
Funny you should say that. My wife and I discussed that this evening. We could start with putting a second floor inside one of the bins and cut windows on three 'sides'. Later we could come in and put in a bathroom, small kitchen/living room, little wood stove, and then put a bedroom upstairs with a shooting area, some books, etc. lol. I'm way over my head and my budget, but it's fun to think about.

That's not a horrible idea. If that doe survives, she'll be in heat same exact time again next year, and will likely bring a buck to that same spot again. If it's the same buck they'll almost certainly be there again. Save the date!

I just emailed myself for next year. Date saved! Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully at least one of the does will survive. The times I saw them today, both does look mature..

Pretty odd to have two mature does simultaneously locked with same buck. I'd guess one is being bred while the other is just hanging around???

If you see him bedded near the road, have you're wife drive slowly and not stop. At the perfect moment, slide out of the passenger side with your gun at the ready. When the car passes, execute your drive by shooting. Obviously this must be a private road to be legal.😊

The wife confirmed they were two mature doe this morning when she visited the chickens. No buck was sighted though so he's likely moved on. Maybe I'll see him over the next few days.
