Seen some pretty serious antler growth in northern Henry county over the weekend. Other than that, just a couple here and there that have grown just enough to notice at 50-75 yds. Have not put any cameras out yet
For whatever reasons, it appears most bucks held onto their antlers a little longer into early spring this year.
Many were seen still carrying their antlers into early April.
This is usually a sign of lower stress, better food supply during the winter months.
It also bodes well for above average antler growth for each age class this year, even though most may be later getting started with the new growth, and later in the summer before they finish growing. A severe summer drought could counter this, and it's never a sure thing this early predicting whether below, above, or average antler growth is more likely.
But I believe most TN areas should see above average growth for 2019.
I had a a couple deer that still had half racks May 3rd. I knew from reading over the yrs that good nutrition was suppose to be a good indicator of deer holding racks longer but this yr just seemed even later than yrs past. I have good food plots yr around and keep mineral most all yr. as well. Just curious what others were seeing.
