An ol friend from Florida came up this week to hunt with me. He hasn't hunted since he was a kid but said he'd really like to give it a shot. I told him our rut mainly falls the first week or so of December and sometimes drags out till about the 20th. He told me he could take off this weekend and it'd have to do. So after a 700 mile drive he got to a warm and rainy Tennessee. If that wasn't enough, the deer I had on camera have disappeared or went nocturnal. I knew at this point luck would have to be our best friend. I took him out to a spot that I always see deer and he got up in the stand right at daylight. Of course the weather was awful and he was getting soaked. At about 9 I told him to go ahead and get down. I had a feeling when this rain slows down, they may be one come in to the plot. He got up in the shooting house out of the rain with not near as good of odds, but my plan worked because at 9:45 I heard my old 30.06 sing. A nice 100 inch 7 pt walked straight out of the oaks into the plot. I don't take good pics and he's 6'4 275 so he makes the deer look small.

Congrats to both of you! That was some nasty weather to sit through this morning. I am glad it worked out for him.
