Butch says.....

I thought we were talking about 6-7 years? He went 68-13 in his first 6 years...79-15 in his first 7.
Year 1 wasn't great(7-6) he figured things out quickly though. Since then he's gone 91-12 including 3 National Championships. :)

It all depends which program. It took Florida 84 years to build a championship program. :stir: :poke:

1991 SEC Steve Spurrier 10–2 7–0
1993 SEC Steve Spurrier 11–2 7–1
1994 SEC Steve Spurrier 10–2–1 7–1
1995 SEC Steve Spurrier 12–1 8–0
1996 SEC Steve Spurrier 12–1 8–0
2000 SEC Steve Spurrier 10–3 7–1
2006 SEC Urban Meyer 13–1 7–1
2008 SEC Urban Meyer 13–1 7–1

Total conference championships

8

Wasn't TN already built then? So why is Lyle saying 6-7 years? :rotf:

Dunno, you'd have to axe Lyle. Just pointing out it takes some programs longer than other to build/rebuild.

Didn't Muschamp go 11-2 ;) :rotf: ?

Most Gator fans were thrilled after that, and thought the program was BACK!

Your honor, I rest my case :super: !

:rotf: :rotf: You cant see it... There is a difference in the two.

I'd say he's already rebuilt the program. The vols are just as good as any other team in the country, a couple of things just haven't gone their way. They're four plays from being ranked #1 in the country. No sarcasm. If butch hadn't coached his way outta a couple games the record would be much better.

Seriously? Mac didn't "build" anything. He inherited arguably the most talented defense in the country. Muschamp didn't run Florida's program into the ground a la Doolander. He just couldn't coach his way out of a paper sack.

How long it takes depends on a lot of things two of which are 1) what kind of talent you had when you got there and 2) how you define a successful program. IMO no matter what all the variables are a coach should be given 4 full recruiting classes to see what he can get done. As for Butch he's had 2 and a partial so we'll see what happens.

Cmon gravey, maybe in most situations, but not vandy's. we've all seen what Derek mason has done. Vandy gives this guy four years, and there literally might not be a single fan in the stands. Not even the players parents. :)

Edit: I'm looking at the replay of the vandy/Houston game and Houston is a dang good team! They are fast!, and physical. I've got a feeling they could beat a LOT of sec teams right now.

As I'm sure you know there are exceptions to every rule.
