I need some ideas on turkey calls. I have tried just bout every brand and size mouth calls on the market, I just can not get past the gaging part. No matter how much I cut one down, I still gag. Dentist said I had a very active gag reflex. I can work a box and slate pretty good but I am not able to pull them in the last little bit due to not wanting to move to call. I have seen the push button call that mount on your gun but the reviews aren't real good for them. Any other choices out there I don't know about?

Many birds have died at the hands of friction calls. Set up and location are way more important than calling. Make sure you have some great cover or even a blind. I believe M.A.D. has a blind that your gun can rest on. If you want a push button, find a custom made one and practice with it. I would use it to purr and cluck as a closer call.

Tube call... It's like an external mouth call, you only need one hand and hold it to your mouth

imo practice more with the friction calls like said above a whole lot of turkeys die every year because of friction calls. most of mine to do.

LOTS of options out there just depends on what your looking for. Friction call, box call, push button, tube call and wing bone to name a few. all have pros and cons to them just depends on how you want to run them or what you are more comfortable with.

I too have a very bad gag reflex and it has always stopped me from being able to use a mouth call. However, REN suggested last year that I go to Hook's custom calls and try the youth calls. They are very small and easily fit into the roof of my mouth without me gagging and yaking constantly and very easy to blow. I went from not being able to hold one in my mouth to making some pretty decent calls in under an hourit was enough to call in 3 birds in killing range.

You don't really need any call to finish them with, once they get close enough you don't fill comfortable moving to use the friction call then its time to let them hunt you...scratch in the leaves if nothing else. Don't under-estimate the push button, many turkeys have met there maker due to them...
Diaphragm calls and rifle sights have saved many birds over the years... Lol

If you do not want to move and you cannot use a mouth call, then your options are pretty much null.

Try getting a slate call that attaches to your leg or shotgun butt, that way your movement is minimal.

A shotgun mounted push call is not all that bad, you basically want something that mimmicks a hen to remind the tom where he is going, your not reallly going to "call" him in with it.

Movement by using any type of friction call is over-rated. If he is close enough to see you moving your calls, you shouldn't be calling anyways.

I agree, but those public land pressured birds can pick the slightest movement out a long ways off. Of course this can be prevented by good cover use, but sometimes you have to make do with what you got.
