Calling Turkeys

Are there turkeys there? Are you wanting to actually try to call birds up now?

It is legal, but not advisable if you or anyone plans to hunt there (if there are birds there).

BTW, my advice would be to NOT try turkey hunting, unless you are willing to deal with the consequences of a likely spring addiction.

I don't know the dates but a lot of the public hunting places in Tennessee. It is illegal to call to turkeys before season opens. On private land have at it but beware turkeys are smarter than people give them credit for. If they can recognize your call and associate it with you. You will just run them off.

Don't do it. I think from March 1st until opening day of the Spring season it is actually illegal but it's legal now. I believe that was the rule. Anyway, if you want to hunt those turkeys, don't call to them yet. They get educated quickly and you'll have a hard time calling them when it counts. Late season gobblers can be almost impossible to call in because they've heard so many calls all Spring.

On wmas it's illegal from March 1st till opening day, however it's fine on private land. Just don't do it with a gun and IMO you're better off not doing it at all. Every time you call in a turkey and it busts you then it gets a little smarter and tougher to call in. Just practice the rhythm and sound of your calls, while listening to recordings or watching videos of real wild turkey hens. Just focus on the Yelp and cluck and maybe some aggressive cutting, worry about other vocalizations later.
