Camera Orientation

I think I recall seeing someone state that orienting a camera to face North is ideal. However, I would like everyone's opinion.

I have a place that is limited to a South facing camera only that I want to try, but not if I end up getting pics washed out, etc.
 
East and west are the worst followed by south. I face most of mine somewhat to the north. I've had washed out pics from a WSW facing camera. During the winter I'd expect more false trigger and washed out pics from south facing cams because the sun is lower in the winter.
