Scouting is important, and knowing where scratching areas are is a big plus.
But the best way to learn is to accumulate past experiences through lots of hunts and then you will start to see trends on where birds like to strut, roost, feed, and whatever.
I have killed 4 gobblers in the last five years in the same 20 yard radius, because past experience has led me to believe that when one is gobbling nearby this certain high point, if I get up there and call to him he will come up there if he is alone.
Now not all high points are like this, and I don't know why this one is, but this is just an example of what I'm talking about. Find the areas where they like to be.
It takes more than just strolling through the woods looking for poop and scratching.
