Citing what sounds to me as you didn't win a Ring, the Cardinals fired 18-year veteran Shildt today. Officially: "simmering disconnect between Shildt and the front office -- one that was building over time but "came to a head" over the past week.

No replacement named.

IMHO a huge mistake but it aint my millions on the line.

I think Molina is not gonna be the replacement.

I doubt Stubby Clapp will be the replacement

It can't possibly be Wainwright

Thoughts?

FB friend posted this:
"A GM with "philosophical differences" between he and a manger who leads a team to a 17-game winning streak and the playoffs, may need to get over it."

Unless they hire Ron Washington, I agree.

The owner thinks Shildt blew the Wild Card game with his pitching selections. Also, the simmering stuff is just BS to hide they couldn;t push Shildt around.

The choices I have seen will have the Cards in last place.

Now, everyone can see that the management team thought spending as much as they did on Arenado and Goldie would be an automatic win in the Series

Lester won't stay around.....wonder if Molina's final year will be shortened up? Same for Waino. DeJung will be gone for sure, probably DFA'd. Also, maniac hair color Carlos is gone for sure.

Sure gonna be interesting

Wash won't leave the Braves. Not for nuttin no how no way.

I cannot conjure up a candidate.....Except, believe it or not, Don Mattingly.

Wash has already put himself forth as a candidate for the Padres vacancy. Wouldn't need to pay big money for infielders after he's drilled with them.

I am a huge Cardinal fan and watch almost every game. Shildt made some bonehead pitching decisions just before the 17 game win streak that were baffling. But the worst thing he did was take a team clicking on all cylinders and break their rhythm by sitting multiple starters leading up to the wildcard game. This team was knocking the cover off the ball and he killed the momentum. Should he have been fired? I don't think so unless they have an ace up their sleeves. Am I sad he's gone? Not really. This team was loaded and he couldn't capitalize on all that talent.
