If you're still in the woods be careful. Found this dude on Sunday and by the way he was positioned he could cause issues if me or anyone else wasn't paying attention. He was perfectly concealed behind that log and luckily for me I was approaching from his back so I saw him from a safe distance.

He never rattled, nor even really acknowledged my existence until I nudged him just a little. Even after that he basically just ignored me, wishing to continue his hunt.

He's still alive, as I'm not scared of them and don't condone killing snakes that aren't an immediate danger to people. Where he was is about 3 miles from the closest road, and probably 10 from any sort of dwelling. It's a much larger snake then it appears in the pics BTW, most of his body was hidden from view.

Cool timber rattler.

You shouldn't have put this pic on the world wide web. I know this exact log and now know where you hunt...........

Here is one from a couple weeks back. It had covered part of itself in leaves. It was hiding in the edge of an old haul road. [emoji16] it never made a sound. Sure made things pucker up.

That's why I always wear snake boots. I believe a man would have to step on one to get bit. They seem fairly easy going.

As much as I am in woods I have never came up on a rattler or copperhead in Tennessee. Now rattlers and cottonmouths in Fla. is a whole nother story. Straddled a 6' diamondback while squirrel hunting on a small sandy ridge one morning, that's a serious pucker factor!

I've seen many more copperheads than rattlers in the mountains I hunt. Old logs on field edges are a favorite.

Have no fear, that one I found and could see the highest spot on your place through the trees a few miles away. They're there, and I'm with you and see more copperheads as well.
