Thanks for the replies. So if no stands or blinds, is the hunting all done on the ground without cover? Forgive my ignorance, it's literally my first time. Not sure if it's allowed. Possibly the day before not sure. But That usually doesn't work out well at catoosa. It's iffy to even leave your stand in the woods overnight. Because if somebody beats you to the spot which happens very often then what. The crowd you see the day before the hunt won't have nothing on how many pile in that afternoon of the hunt.
Most people use climbers and simply go in and climb that morning in the spot they have picked. There will be lots of people so if you go in and put up a stand or blind the day before there is a good possibility someone who doesn't even know it's in the area may set up near it that morning in the dark without even seeing it. I would have several spots scouted and picked out due to the number of people at Catoosa. Most people simply go by first come first served basis on public land, you get to your spot climb or whatever you are going to do,if someone comes in on you , shine your light and most people ( not all) will move on and avoid you. Catoosa is a big place but people tend to congregate to certain areas. My advice, go scout several places so you can move if needed based off location of people . Good luck! Thanks for the replies. YESAnd there are hogs and bears on catoosa.
I've never had issues with them, but be mindful of their presence.
Couple years ago, daughter and I eased into a place. Knew others were around, but didn't see them. We weren't too far back in there. Got settled in and it was good and quiet. Then some dipchit starts blowing their car horn...beep....beep....beep...beep...I went one time, hiked nearly a mile, way back into a place where I'd be the only one back there.
When it broke daylight, the place looked like a pumpkin patch, guys were around me in every direction. I guess there was another road that wasn't on the map.
I eased out, and left my headlamp turned on, haven't been back to that spot anymore.
Any ballpark area you'd recommend? I'll be buying a map from the Crossville TWRA to scout some points but I appreciate any helpful intel. I'm respectful of other hunters and wont cramp an area. There's enough for us all. Thank you.I've hunted catoosa many times they say you have to go deep. You don't. Last year I hunted it and saw 20 plus deer 9 were bucks. I could see my truck. To do good on catoosa Or any public land in my opinion is you have to learn to hunt the hunter. I've killed 4 there within 125 yards of the road. My dad killed a nice 8 in one of our favorite spots and we smell the campfires. Find their exit strategy and you'll kill. I personally believe catoosa is getting worse every year and most of my hunting party never see deer. I quit putting in because it's no longer a bonus buck. Hope you kill a stud. Good luck.
Thank you. Appreciate itMy advice would be to hunt the Genesis side. Have several spots in mind of places you think look good then drive around after daybreak 1st morning of the hunt and if you can find a place where nobody is parked get out and hunt it.
I'm not sure you need a WMA stamp if you have a permit.Been several yrs since I hunted a draw hunt but I think you will need your WMA stamp and your draw printed in paper.
I also drew Oct muzzy hunt.
