Anyone planning on hunting the open bow hunt in Mid-October? I am thinking about putting in at least a few days of bow hunting out there this year. I live about 10 miles away from the western border of Catoosa so scouting shouldn't be a problem.

At that time of year I am guessing the deer are on the acorns pretty hard. Anyone have any experience/success hunting there on the bow hunt?

Thanks,

me and some buddies always hunt it, seems like its either hot or rainy, but weve has some luck over the years. id like to know where i could get a real good map of the area. This year were going to try to hunt in the northern side and not so much the cumberland side, so it may change lol

i agree, its about time away with great friends and for some reason we eat like champs in the deer woods, bologna, viennas, pimento, the stuff the wife wont let me keep at home lol. if you can pick me up one, pm the cost and where to send it to buddy

You can get you a great map from the TWRA office in Crossville. I have one and got it laminated, its prtetty helpful. If you'd like me to pick up a copy and mail u one just let me know.

We camp for the archery hunt every year, its a tradition we've had since 2003. I might ride out there this weekend since its going to be a little cooler. Our group usually does fairly well, its always a blast. Not just the hunting but camping and cooking etc.
Where do you camp?

Back in the 1980s I used to camp at Hebbertsburg with a bunch of my buddies. One of them said something about trying to get together and hunt a few days there this year.

Here is a link to some maps.

Carlos, is this map you are talking about the same map that can be ordered from the TWRA website. I picked up a lot better and more detailed map from TWRA at a deer hunting show in Nashville many years ago; but the map somehow got lost over the years. :(

i saw one of the biggest bucks ive ever seen off the hebbertsburg
area 3 years ago, and he wouldnt stop for a million dollars,a giant deer

Even I got on a lease that Ive been on the waiting list for 3 years, I will be back at Catoosa for the open bow hunt this year. Hunted it my first time last year and killed a mature doe, two boars, one 200lbs and the other 125.

We camp on bi color some of my group hunts the entire hunt.we have more fun camping than we do hunting.Stop by and see us if any of you are over that way.

oh btw did anyone here that twra is giving tickets if you leave a camper over one day without using it?Was told that the other day.before they could careless how long campers were there

they are carlos.heard today that they are leaving letters in some camps move it or we will.

I've got friends from Tellico who pulled their camper up last year for the archery hunt. They left it until their quota hunt 2 weeks later, guess they can't do that this year.

Several others did the same thing, didn't know it was a problem.

rules have always been that you can't leave it for a long while but they never cared before.not sure why they are now.Someone said it was bc they didn't want people to see them trapping the hogs.lol
