This year catoosa has an october muzzle loader hunt. Do you guys think that will be a successful hunt this year or will the november hunts be better? Will the oressure change the success of the first november hunt they have? Also, if i wanted to get on some hogs in catoosa where i could get it out after killed, what would be some decent places to check out? Thanks

If there is a cold snap, I could see the October hunt as being pretty good. The bucks are just starting to move at that time. If it stays warm, it'll be tough hunting. It will definitely have an effect on the later hunts. Of for no other reason than there being less bucks. But, I think the Nov hunts will still be better no matter the weather. That little tingly feeling they get in their pants in Nov overrides everything.

Can't help you with the hogs, I don't shoot them since they have to be brought out whole. I'll leave them for the guys with 4 wheelers.

just the thought of carrying a smoke-pole into the woods during October has me more excited than Richard Simmons with a wheel barrow full of buttholes.

I've hunted Catoosa the last 3 years during the November gun hunt and have seen/heard decent rut activity. Pressure does seem to affect the deer but I think you'll deal with that regardless of which hunt you participate. Weather really seems to be the biggest factors up there as days I've seen the most activity are the ones where the ground is frosted and frozen on my walk to the stand in the morning.

I'm not much help on hogs. I've seen a lot of sign up there but the few live ones I've seen have been alone and seemingly by pure happenstance.

Does anyone else feel like theyre hunting ghost deer the secomd weekend of gun hunts on a wma draw hunt? I found tons of sogn on catoosa last year but i found deer hair and drag marks where people had drug out deer the weekend before. Hard for me to have confidence in a hunting spot knowing theres a really good chance that the big buck that made the sign you found is probably dead. Im sure theres more than one using the area but it does way heavy on my comfidence in that area.

I thought about this for a long time before completing my Quota hunt application. I can tell you one thing for sure, it's going to be a lot of fun. The weather and critters may not cooperate but just the thought of carrying a smoke-pole into the woods during October has me more excited than Richard Simmons with a wheel barrow full of buttholes.

That's funny right there, I don't care who ya are.

Since I've been on leases, I haven't hunted there but lose the lease I'll be back late October-early Nov.

Was in there late Monday afternoon and seen a good solid 140 in. main frame eight point. Full velvet with a few kickers on his left G-2. Big bodied, 4 year old or better. Close to 5 1/2 in. bases and carried mass on out. Solid 5 in. eye guards with towering 2's and 3's. Crossed the road just above the Bi-Color camp right in front of me with a 2 yr old 6 point. Watched them for at least 8 minutes before they pulled up and over the ridge. A "very" impressive 8 pointer indeed.
