I set up on one gobbling yesterday and he was getting closer when I hear something to my right. It's 4 deer so I wave at them thinking they will run back the way they came but they snort and run right by me directly toward the turkey. The next time he gobbles he's in a big wide open field behind me. I start changing my position but notice he's getting further away. I made my way to the field and he is headed away from me right toward where I parked.

I knew I could get to the other side easily but it would involve some crawling. When I get to the other side he's nowhere in sight. I decided to pack up when I hear him gobble in a different field.

Once again I make my way toward him and about half way there I notice my slip on Limbsaver recoil pad on my NEF single shot is gone  but I keep going. He heard me walking and started coming to me. He was about 10 yards or less when I shot and missed.

After getting home I realized that, with my pad missing, my head was further up on the stock and was seeing A LOT of barrel. I knew then I shot high.

I learned that with the recoil pad missing, not only does it change POI but it inflicts a severe amount of pain :o and should not be attempted by others or me ever again.

By the way, during deer season the deer always run back the way they came. However, during turkey season they either run toward the turkey or stand and snort at you for 20 minutes
