It's unreal how much smaller these south MS birds than those in TN. Leg on the left from the one I shot this morn in MS. Leg on the right is from TN and is already partially dried and shrunk.

No wonder these toms fly immediately when spooked instead of running before flying like I am used to in TN.

In your experience is that a fairly normal compsrison? Are they similar in body size and just short legged in MS.
The biggest bird I killed in MS back in March (est 21 lbs) had even smaller legs than today's bird.... but he was well dehydrated after a month. A 21 lb bird here is like killing a 28lb bird in TN.

Birds are tiny down here, their legs are not disproportionately short. Their entire body is smaller.

Nope, this was his newfound buddy that got killed, but that's typical for our mature gobblers. To be fair, the TN bird was the 26.2lber I killed a couple weeks ago, so his legs were a bit bigger than average TN birds.

They are for sure different. But I've killed small ones in Tennessee as well. And big ones in Alabama. I guess it's just different genetics of turkeys.

That's because TN has mountains and turkeys here are part billy goat...
