Anyone been out to the refuge lately. I got drawn for the 2nd hunt and have not had a chance to scout yet. Plus I was wondering how flooded it is.

I have not been up there in a few years, but I can tell you that most, if not all, of the bottom is under water right now. Vehicle access is pretty much not an option after the MS River hits a 27-28' on the Memphis gage. It is 34.6' today on the Memphis gage and rising. You can keep an eye on the river stages at the link below. It is updated most week days around 11AM.

You can still access it by boat, but there will be little, if any land exposed at these abnormally high river stages.

The good news for those drawn (if there is any) is the Nat'l Weather Service's long range forecast shows the Memphis gage falling to a +25 by April 7 (the date of the first drawn hunt at Chickasaw). This "forecast" only takes into account the next 24 hours of rainfall which we all know is most likely very optimistic. Keep in mind that several states up north have considerable snow drift (8-12") that is just now starting to melt. This will impact the river stage to some degree over the next 1-3 weeks, how much, I do not know. The long range forecast can be viewed at the link below. My advice is to use the long range forecast as just that, a forecast, and a preliminary one at that.

I was told yesterday that there is 4 foot of water over Watkins Road right now. And I've got the 1st hunt.
I believe it, Watkins Rd is right in the middle of bottom too. I bet the private land owners up on the bluff are overrun with wildlife at the moment.

But it's still gonna be one muddy mess in there!!!
And heaven forbid the temps be above average. If so, the mosquitoes will resemble small helicopters attacking your every move. I am not trying to discourage anyone, just reflecting on my last hunt their several years back.

Hunted for the first time their last year. Never seen so many skeeters it all my life. Every step a new swarm would rise out of the depths of he**. Had to lean forward and just push my way through.
