My son is 9 (will be 10 on 10/25), and is a big kid for his age - tall and about 130lbs.

I have a bow, his mom has a crossbow, and he's wanting a bow for himself.

Any suggestions on where to get started for a youth and not have him out-grow the equipment pretty much immediately? I'm ok with used equipment too, especially until we know if this is just a fad or he will actually want to stick with it.

How do you even start trying to find a bow for a kid?

Diamond Razor Edge I think is a great option as stated above. you cant beat 30-60#'s. However the Mission Craze will give him a little more draw length in the end and 10 extra pounds. 15-70 pounds total range. Based on what your description of your son he will probablly be looking at about 25-65 pounds right now out of the bow at least.

I just bought the mission menace for my 10 yo. And I have to say its an awesome bow 19-30 inch draw ,should last till HE can buy the next one.LOL

I agree with the Mission Craze also. A great bow. A little bit more money. Ibo on Diamond is 308 fps @ 60 lbs. compared to the Mission 306 @ 70 lbs.

Thanks to Secret Squirrel I'll be outfitting a (his) Mission Menace for my son... wish me luck :)

Good choice and I was over at Secret Squirrel's yesterday when he told me he sold one of his son's bows.

I might buy his other son's Menace for my son.

My sons menace is set at 41 lbs and 23 in. He is shooting gold tip 3555 arrows out of it & they fly well,he is stacking arrows in the target out to 30

Thanks guys!

Funny thing - I brought it home and moved my gear over to his bow Saturday morning (buying new stuff for myself, of course!), set the Menace to 29" draw...

And I actually like shooting it, lol.

Only took a few minutes to dial in 20 and 30 yard shots, can't wait for my son to get it set up for him come his October birthday (I'm keeping it a surprise till then).
