This has been a fantastic weekend in the turkey woods. After a few misses Friday, and watching my dad take a bird on Saturday, I scored a bird early this morning. The morning began when the alarm went off at 3:50am and drove to the hunting spot. After about a 30 minute hike, I sat below a tree in an area the birds have been known to roost at 5:13. As I awaited the coming daylight I heard a bird gobble in the distance about 5:27 but waited as I knew it was early. at 5:35 he triple gobbled and I couldn't resist anymore and move 500 yards down to where I thought he would be. Just before sitting down spooked two hens and the bird did not gobble for a couple of minutes and when he did I realized I had gotten way too close. As the morning progressed he became inspired to gobble and put on a show until I hit a call to let him know I was in the area. As the time passed I began to wonder if I spooked the gobbler and he answered my doubts and pitched down twenty yards in front of me. That was all it wrote for this ole bird as he was done for at 6:20. Had an 8 inch beard (pic below) and 3/4 spurs. Thankful for the bird and for the opportunity to worship THE RISEN Savior Jesus Christ this morning.

On a side note this is the worst case of beard rot I have ever seen. The majority of his beard was gone as a result. Also, this was the last edition to my current spur necklace.
