Well I heard a tom gobble behind the house a while back. I left out to check it out to find 3 strutters with 2 hens in the back of the field. I set up to call them down the field edge to me but the hens didn't want to come any closer than 70 yds. Then they worked thier way over the rise in the field. I decided to try the ol' crawl through the grass stalk. I got all the way up to the rise, popped up only to realize that the toms were way further than what I had hoped. I fired off one shot which missed, then fired off another. The tom I shot at the second time jumped up in the air and fell flat flopping around on the ground. I decided to jump up and get closer to finish him off, but when I tried to run a little closer he jumps up and flies off. I couldn't believe it!!!! Is there any way this tom is fatally wounded?? Or did I just stun him for a second?? Anybody had this happen to them?? I haven't killed a tom this year yet and i'm pretty sick about the whole ordeal cuz this ol boy was BIG!
