I like Fulmer and he was a great ambassador for the university but look at his last couple of years. He signed top 5 classes year in and year out but I think for many their best day on campus was their first day. They didnt seem to develop much if any. When Cutcliffe left for Ole Miss that hurt him. All that said there's a reason he didn't land anywhere else as a head coach. Age hurt him somewhat but I think he's done alright.Mudbone":1vaa7ucd said:Where on the football map would the vols be without fat Phil? I hear lots of vol fans talk about the great history and legacy of ut football, but then dog fulmer in the same breath. IMHO he is due more respect than he recieves.

In the case of Fulmer, the fans get a lot of credit for having him fired. I have never seen a fan base turn on a legendary coach so fast.
Of course badnole really don't know if his team won or lost the 1998 N/C..... :rotf: :smash: :rotf:

If you could go back in time and the true fans were honest they would have kept him.gator-n-buck":3fytduli said:buckaroo":3fytduli said:Or Muschamp 11-1, Chiszick couple years after NC, it happens fast look around
The "Big" difference... Fulmer played for UT, was a coach at UT for 30 years, avg. 9 wins per season, and won a N/C..... No comparision to the coaches you mentioned above. The fans got greedy and it backfired.
