i had the same thing happen 2 years ago. Shot one in Wilson County that had that same fan (on the left) and looked JUST like a Merriam fan. it is still one of my fav hunts of all time. not sure why the white tips show up but it def doesn't have all the Merriam characteristics

I have seen that all over the SE, it is just a color variation. I have seen the shield feathers at the base of the fan range all over the spectrum from bronze, black, amber, and white.

I would agree

My father killed one years back that looked the exact same. He is an insurance adjuster and he worked a claim on someone's property that lived directly behind the farm that we hunted on. He told the guy that we hunted back there and the old man said that his daddy "Pumpy" had some tame turkeys that ran off with the wild ones. It does happen. The turkey was wild but did have some tame in it.

My brother killed one in Smith last year that had a very white tipped fan, and Mathews Hunter has killed some West TN burds that look like this several I have seen from the Western states with this pattern Goregeous!

Here is my Brothers!
Look at the Secondary feathers as well!

Once again, they are not hybrids, they are not cross bred. It is just a coloration abnormality which can be found anywhere in the country that has turkeys. They also do not look anything like a Merriams, Merriams are much more striking then those. They do resemble Rio's, but then again color variations are very common. In fact most fans are different, either in patter or color.

agreed, just because the TIPS are white does not make them a merriam.
