I never really cared who shot crossbows or when they hunted with them.
Didn't really have any affect on me at all.
I hurt my arm last year and now I can't pull my bow back anymore.
A friend loaned me a big fancy crossbow for me to use.
My first experiences with it I figured out the following.
It is big and bulky.
It is HEAVY and there is absolutely NO way to carry it in a comfortable fashion if you also have a climbing stand to carry.
I am very grateful to be in the woods with a chance to actually kill a deer, but it is just different.
Yesterday morning we had two does come in.
One of them was at 10 yards and the other was at 15.
The one at 15 spotted man getting into position to shoot the one at 10.
If I had it to do over I would have just shot the one at 15 and then I figure the one that was at 10 would have either stuck around long enough for man to get a shot or she would have came back... anyway...
Point is there was a deer at 10 yards and we had very little cover.
As everyone that bowhunts knows, when a deer gets in that close, getting into position and drawing your bow IS the challenge.
As I slowly leaned forward and placed the red dot on the spot right above her heart, right behind the shoulder and settled my finger on the trigger.......
That is when I realized, in my opinion, the only difference in a crossbow and a firearm is the limited effective range of the crossbow, well and that I would rather carry my heaviest rifle any day....
Again I am grateful that I COULD HAVE killed a deer yesterday morning, but in my mind it wouldn't have been a bow kill.
Big mamma spooked and blew and everyone lived to see another day.
I decided right then, however, I am not sure how but I WILL get to where I can shoot a bow again, I have to.
