My crappie bite still isn't on fire, but it is, at least, consistent. During every morning trip recently, we've caught about 20 (plus or minus) keeper crappie.
It has been a mixture or black & white crappie, which tells me the best bite is still to come because the white crappie always move up first... although the Chickamauga Lake population is predominantly black crappie.
The size has been outstanding. My partner Friday had two TARP's (TWRA's Trophy Program)... a 14.75-inch white crappie and a 15.25-inch black crappie. The majority of keepers have been 11-inches plus, which hardcore crappie anglers know is a great average.
Now all we need is some limits, and I'm hoping warmer days (and warmer water, current temp app. 52-53 degrees) ahead will make that happen.
