Cooked cabbage recipe.

Anyone have a good recipe for cabbage? Wanting to try some tonight but never have cooked it.

1) Sliced into cabbage "steaks": place on aluminum foil & cookie sheet, salt & pepper, drizzled with olive oil, and roasted in a 400° oven
2) Braised: cut a head into chunks, scatter around in a big pot or dutch oven, add smoked meat (bacon, ham hocks, smoked turkey legs, etc.), pour in enough chicken stock to fill about halfway up, salt & pepper, and simmer all day over low heat
3) Boiled: same as above, but cover in chicken stock, bring to a boil, and cook for about 20mins.
4) Fried: same as above, but remove from stock after about 10 minutes. In a large frying pan, melt some butter, and toss in your par-boiled cabbage.

Pound of Sliced smoked sausage, one onion rough cut, head of cabbage cut in fourths. Barely cover in water. Boil till tender. Lotta black pepper. Love this stuff. Also steamed and covered in cheese sauce

I'm the only one in the house that likes corned beef ☹️

And the wife is the only other of 5 that likes cabbage and potatoes
I'm the only one who likes corned beef and cabbage. But I have no problem cooking and eating the whole pot. The wife can make a PB&J for all I care lol

dont overcook it. i fry it with a little oil, garlic, salt and pepper with a splash of water with lid on, stirring occasionalky. i stir fry it in noodles too. i like it a little carmelized with a little bite to it.

cut out the core so you have a big hollow cavity in the middle of the cabbage . Fill that cavity with a liberal amount of your favorite creole seasoning and then add a cut up a stick of butter and pack it in. Wrap in aluminum and leave it open on top. Smoke for about 3-6 hours or until it gets real soft. Take it out, slice it and enjoy.

here a couple of my go to recipes

Fry some bacon and then sauté some garlic and onion with it- then add 1/2 head of cabbage and saute it med-low over the next 30 min.

Also- put it in a Dutch oven with a red onion, apples and diced bacon. Bake it for 45 mi -1 hr on 450 degrees.

Love cabbage raw, boiled, fried, baked, smoked added to other dishes cant go wrong. Its a super food too. Boiled I use beef base, water, redpepper flakes, black pepper, onion/gralic soy sauce maybe some fried bacon to add flavor. Really good add some cut up carrots or turnips. You can add about any protein to this if desired. Just made a pot the other night. Had it with smoked pork loin, roasted potatoes n carrots. Also goes really good with cornbread. Boiling I dont completely cover cabbage with stock so I guess its a kind of boil/steam effect keeps a good texture to the cabbage.

Mrs TAFKAP loves to throw stuff in the air fryer. She rough chopped a remaining head of cabbage last night, tossed it in olive oil, salt, & pepper. Then she airfried that sucker. Another good thought, and it takes a whole lot less time too
