Cooler temps.......??

I know I went to a place yesterday morning where I have at least heard one bird everytime and didn't hear anything, I was wondering if it had anything to do with the drop in temperature.

on monday morning there was frost on the ground in maury county and the birds roosted in a narrow strip of woods were very vocal. At least 3 gobblers and a bunch of hens. Unfortunately one hen flew down into our field and all the rest went onto private land on the other side. A bird also gobbled late morning in another location in the woods. He came out of the woods eventually with one hen. That was the bird that ImThere killed. Temps were cool that morning but didn't seem to hurt the gobbling much. It was pretty warm though by the time the bird was killed.

I personally like the cooler temps (40-50 for lows); both for me and the increased gobbling activity of the birds in the areas I hunt. This is based on my personal observation data over the past 15 years with many mornings of listening in west and middle TN.

Birds been more active on my spots this week then last.
Sounds right to me. My hunch tells me that last week (record highs of 87+ early on), many old birds were sitting still in the shade from about 11-5. Me and my buddy witnessed this behavior firsthand as well as some more guys I know that were hunting couple hours away. Made for some dismal hunting experiences during that time.

Thanks. I'll be going tomorrow, taking all this in to account...

got some deer stand work to do as well, may hunt early, mess with stands later, then back hunting around lunch...?? or maybe just go hunt all morning and mess with stands around lunch time...
I got a free day and want to spend it productively...

what ya'll think?

yeah I'd hunt straight thru the morning not break it up into chunks. Keep the gun with you while messing with the stands in case you find yourself near a gobbler.

just hunt as long as you are having fun, when you are no longer enjoying sitting there go work on the stands, when you are tired of working on the stands go back hunting.
