I have hunted in that area , I was on the first official hunt the Corp had on that BROOKS BEND area back in 1973 / 1974 hunting season . Me , Craig and OLD TIMER followed the ranger down that then dirt [ mostly mud ] road to the start of the Manegement Area slip sliding away in my 1969 Chevy Impala . There had been a hard rain the last two days and the dirt road was a quigmire with mugholes every few yards . There was a convoy of us Deer hunters that were going on the hunt because it was the first ever Deer hunt in Tennessee on the new then National Hunt and Fish day. That old dirt road was so bad back then that the old Chevy would not have made it if it hadnt of had the POS-TRAC rear-end in it and that nice Chevy small block 327 V-8 supplying the horse power.

The official first Hunt camping ground for our National Hunt and Fish day Hunting group was the Defeated Creek campground on the Cordell Hull lake near the Anderson`s farms where I had hunted rabbitts before with one of my Inglewood neighbors an Anderson that`s family still owned the family farm land there .
There were few deer stands back then so on the bow hunt I climbed up in a big Oak tree by an abbandoned home place on the side of the hill facing the fields. I had my Ben Pearson Locksley recurve bow with me and a quiver with 6 wooden Bear arrows with the Bear razor heads. That was before compound bows had started getting so much attention and Long-bows and recurves were the bows that real savvy Deer hunters had with them on their hunts in Tennessee . Craig had his Ben Pearson 45 pound pull recurve and OLD Timer had his 70 pound pull Wing Hunter recurve bow and some Bear Wood arrows with the Bear razor heads he found for it at Clays Sporting goods on Franklin road. It was always hard to find the right splined arrows for that Wing bow as most people used 45 or 50 pound draw weight bows back in the Traditional bow times.
There were Deer on that place but none walked in range of me or my friends that weekend. There were a bunch of hunters from Pennsavania down for that first official hunt on the WMA and the hillsides was covered with guys in new blaze orange vests checking out the Deer here in Tennessee on the first time hunt on cordell hull management area .
