With firearm and ammunition prices going sky high over the last few years and with more people moving out of the cities into the country it's getting harder and harder to find a place to hunt and to be able to afford equipment.
Archery offers a person a way to get into hunting with minimal costs since used equipment and even some new bows are very affordable when compared to a rifle or shotgun and arrows can be used over and over making shooting relatively inexpensive when compared to ammo prices for firearms.
Also, bows are generally safer in populated areas since their range is much less then most firearms.
Because a bow is quite you can practice in your back yard without disturbing the neighbors, something that you can't do with a firearm.
Many land owners will allow a person with a bow to hunt on their land when they won't allow firearms hunting.
It could just be that archery in all forms(traditional, compound and crossbow) could be the wave of the future when it comes to saving our hunting heritage.

Interesting. I don't know if it will save hunting or not, but I've met landowners who are much more receptive to me hunting their property if I'm bowhunting.

I just see the price of ammo going up so much and firearms prices have gone thru the roof, plus with the current administration there's bound to be some more "anti gun" legislation coming down the pike while archery is pretty much untouched by politics. Granted there are those that are just Anti-Hunting and don't care for any kind of hunting, archery, muzzle loading or regular firearm but it seems like archery gets the least amount of flack form the majority of people.
Also I like archery a lot because it quite and doesn't disturb game like firearms do. After a full season of bow hunting game isn't spooky like it is after the first day of firearm season.
Something else I really love about archery, you can hunt pretty much anything just by changing up broadheads/tips so it's really practical.
Guess more then anything I'm just doing a bit of cheerleading for bow hunting.

Yry a longbow or recurve bow then there is even less upkeep on equipment, just a little string was and some was funiture polish for the wood and your good.

I had both Longbow and recurve, they are very easy to take care of but after my bout with vitamin D deficiency and all the muscle and joint pain that forced me to sell both bows I really needed something that'd be easier to shoot. That's why I went compound bow. That 60% let off really helps me hold the bow at full draw so I can make an accurate shot.
Trust me, it wasn't easy giving up my "anti-technology" stance on archery but now that I've had my compound for a while I'm really starting to love it and I see why so many hunt with em'. They really are a big step up from a traditional bow and since it's my only hunting implement I want it to be something that's efficient, effective and accurate so I can take game cleanly.

Iowas Legendary World Record WHITETAIL
The fifth arrow Lloyd Goad ever slung at a deer was his first to connect. And yet, it downed one of the all-time greats in whitetail-hunting history!

By Duncan Dobie

Taking a world-record buck is hard under any circumstances. Doing so with a 45-pound recurve and wooden arrows is even more remarkable.

Such was the situation in 1962, when then-34-year-old Lloyd Goad shot his 14-pointer in southern Iowa. At the time, the deer was the top bow typical of the modern era, at 197 6/8 net Pope & Young points, and hed wear the crown for three years.

As a true 7x7 typical, the Goad buck is rare even among world-class trophies. Few have this many typical tines. Photo courtesy of Legendary Whitetails.

Lloyd died on Dec. 20, 1993, and remarkably little has been written about his great whitetail. The following was taken from his handwritten account of the historic hunt.

Its all good . A bow is a bow some are just traditional bows and some are new bows with spectra strings and cables.
Bow hunting will become more important in Tennessee now with all these new houses everywhere.

One great thing about archery for those of us who live Semi-Rural is that you can practice in your back yard. With a firearm you'd have to drive to a range or other place with more room and that eats up your gas and your time. It's so simple to just grab my bow and head out to the back yard for a few practice shots.
I really notice that many of the hunting shows in TV now are geared more toward bowhunters rather then gun hunters.
Plus, with the proper broadhead or tip I can take just about anything I'd care to hunt from deer, turkey, bear and hogs to rabbits or even birds with fluflu arrows. Archery if a very versatile hunting tool to have, as good as a shotgun and a lot quieter too.

i don't see the price of bows being cheaper than most guns. i have more invested in my bow than any 2 guns i own. arrows are much more expensive than ammo but of course you can reuse them. the original investment to get started bowhunting is much more than gun hunting.

Depends on what bow you get. Used you can get into a bow for $50 bucks, not many firearms are that cheap, even a single shot shotgun is going for $75 to $100 now days. Of course, like anything, you can find stuff that's real expensive(see the Hoyt Carbon Matrix thread,LOL) but if you shop around you can get some decent deals that'll get you into the woods this fall.
The big difference is in "ammo" costs. Even 38's are $15 to $20 bucks a box and if you don't reload you're pretty much stuck with that price each and every time you shoot. Arrows, on the other hand are about $6.50-$7.50 each and can be reused over and over as long as you take care of em'. I really am enjoying archery this time around.

To me it's not about the cost of ammo , nor the ability to practice without disturbing the neighbors .
Archery and Bowhunting is about getting close to the game or intended target and enjoying the sport or hunt for what it's worth.

Good to see ya posting some RADAR . Hey how is the new job going and have you been Turkey hunting yet ??

I don't know, call me crazy but to me bowhunting, even with a modern compound or crossbow is just a more pure form of hunting. I mean anyone can kill a deer at 300 yards with a modern scope sighted rifle but to have what it takes to get in close enough to take a deer with a bow, well, that's a whole different level in hunting. When I hunt I want to HUNT, not just shoot. I'm back into archery and this time it's to stay. I'm really lovin' my bow and shooting it. I hope I can get a nice fat deer this fall.

i beg to differ, i know many rifle hunters that have no business shooting at a deer at 300 yds.
i also hope you get a nice fat deer this fall.i love to bowhunt too.

The job is going very well here in KC. We are very happy living here . We just bought a new home and are getting settled in . I haven't been Turkey hunting yet , I have been busy fishing and catching Crappie when I'm not working.
I have some good Deer hunting land lined up for this fall and I'm looking forward to bowseason. There is a nice archery range not too far from the house and I have been doing some practice there as well as at home.
