Boated in and found a tree and climbed up. 15 minutes into the hunt, I see him coming to me. Here he comes!
I never reached for my gun, I reached for my phone. He's a nice 8 point but he needs another year.
I hear blowing and see 2 doe's running in front of me. Not sure what's spooked them but things settle and 3 does do an extremely slow loop by me. They feed on honeysuckle and chill out just out of eyesight. In comes a big doe. I'm not sure she's with the other 3 or different. She is alone and beds down facing me 60 yards away. There were no other deer with her but she looked very content with the spot.
In comes another doe definitely a different doe than the one bedding in front of me. She came in from the same direction as the young 8 point. I'm watching her then caught movement behind her.
It's a good buck! I can't pass him! I've got 3 shells in the gun. I gave him the first two and he crashed under me. Then i turn on the doe to shoot her too. The last shell goes click. I re-rack the bolt and squeeze. click again! bullet is no good!!! she's still behind me looking around trying to figure out what happened. I drop the magazine and remove the dud. I fish my last shell out of my chest pocket close it in the chamber line her up and the last one goes bang!
she ran 40 yards and flopped! Double it is! I got them together and propped up my phone and made a video of the deer that God has blessed me with today. He's got really tall browtines, most of the swamp bucks in this area usually have very short and sometimes non existent browtines. I'm pumped to have him! Awesome day and finished up in time to beat the rain.
