Weather and wind had the flats way too murky to sight fish, so we stashed the fly rods and fished cut shad. We were losing fish left and right....I stopped counting after the sixth one jumped off. I finally managed to release two fish. Also caught a good sized nurse shark and two rays, which I think are more trouble than they are worth. All in all it was a pretty good day.

Forgot to mention I'm in Belize. Normally you can see well enough to sight fish tarpon at quite a distance with a fly. Today we couldn't see the bottom right below us in 5 feet of water. I have 3 more days of fishing planned over the next week, so hopefully the flats will clear up soon.

Those tarpons are wild! Had one crush an Alewive off the pier in Orange beach and took me for a good run! It looked to be about 6ft-7ft long.

i hooked one down there a couple of years ago. they are catching quite a few this year.

I caught a 2-footer many years ago. The rest-over 50 for sure-have all jumped and splashed and thrown the hook or broke the line.

I've seen monsters down around Islamorada.

They is a lot of fun.

This guy fought like a wolverine on meth. Six jumps and four big runs. He was beat down tired when I finally got him to the boat, so I jumped in for a photo to make it easier on him. Also, the previous tarpon took a massive dump all over me and the floor of the boat, and I really wasn't interested in dealing with that kind of mess again.

It's hard to describe how amazing these fish are. We hooked four today and only landed this one. I'm pretty sure the other three laughed at me when the threw the hook...
