Crossbow?

The vitals of a turkey are about the size of an orange. But they are hidden behind something the size of a feather pillow that regularly changes size, shape, and position. And they don't really leave a blood trail when they run off. I've bow hunted since I was 12 and turkey hunted since I was 14. I'm not comfortable trying to shoot one with a bow. The benefit of doing it is low and the risk of wound/loss is very high. For a kid with no turkey hunting experience . . . I wouldn't. Lots of good low-recoil loads for a shotgun that will kill turkeys as far as a cross bow.

I use my crossbow and I have used my regular deer hunting broadheads which are NAP Spitfire MAXX I have also used the NAP Spitfire Gobbler Getter. The gobbler getters have a blunt tip so you don't have a pass through. The reasoning behind the blunt head is so it pins there wing down so they cant fly off. I have not lost a bird with either of them. Just keep the shots close and be patient. Obviously you are not going to have a boom and a flop right away but if you make a good shot they don't go far.

Killed one with a crossbow. A few others with a regular compound. Fixed blade 100 grain thunder heads will do the trick. They gotta be close though for your best chance. Especially for a kid.
