This may open a huge can or worms. But here goes. I am shooting a Bowtech guardian, 25 inch draw, 65lb pull, 400 beaman arrows, 100gr gator broadheads.

Now, I have been told by several people that my set up will not be enough to push that 2" cut through. I shot a doe at 20yds, real far back, went through gut, angled up, and barely pierced behind her opposite shoulder. No pass through. Terrible blood (because of gut and high shot) , I did find her however.

My question is, I believe the 2" cut is too much, what are the opinions about cutting down those gators to 1.5"? I cut the blades 1/4 inch off each blade that I shot the doe with to make it a 1.5 cut.

What do you think about this approach?

I'm pretty sure you are shooting plenty fast enough to get a pass thru with any broad head on the market . What is the total weight of your arrow ? My opinion is that was just a bad shot and possible angle is why It didn't pass thru .

It should not open a can of worms....this comes up ever so often on herenot cutting the blades, but your low energy. According to my quick math and guestimation abilities your arrow will weigh no more than 350grains and your speed should be around 240ish maxthat comes up to 44 ft/lbs of kinetic energy and there is no way I will recommend any type of mechanical with those numbersthey are just too low from the start and then you have to worry about your downrange energy, which will be even lower, and then what you have lost from the head opening. You will see much better results with a quality COC head, like Slick Tricks or G5 Strikers.

If you want, since I'm right across the way from you, jump across the river one day and we'll shoot it through my chronograph and weigh/measure everything to see exactly where you are at. You could cut down the blades, but that will not fix anything and you're not fixing the true problem you have....energy.

That is what I am wondering. I believe the last time I had it crono'd it was right at 245-250.

That would be great if I could drop in sometime. I would really appreciate it. I grew up in Mt Juliet and I am over in that area mt juliet/ old hickory quite a bit.

Thank you for the input.

No problem...I tried sending you a PM, but just send me one when you want to do this. I'm available practically anytime as I work at home.
