I have a scout in 35 whelen that really wanting to get a deer with, but was playing around with it in the quietness of the house and noticed that the hammer is very loud when cocking it. Never noticed it outside shooting it but once everything was quite I could definitely hear it. How could I quiet it some?

I have no clue as to quieting it down, but I have been looking really hard at the SS version of this rifle. How do you like it over all. How is the accuracy?

Sometimes pulling the trigger while cocking will work, but you have to release the trigger before releasing the hammer or unexpected things will happen. I think it just gently let's the sear move into the hammer notch.

I really like it, smooth crisp trigger. only trouble is finding 35 whelen ammo. I've only found 1 lot of ammo to try.

I was actually trying this while unloaded, I think that would work I just dnt like the idea.

What jetwrnch said. I started out hunting with a Winchster 30-30 and that's how I cocked it while hunting.
